The NDT test evaluates the competence of individuals responsible for inspecting materials, welds, and structures without causing damage. Non-destructive testing is a cornerstone of quality assurance and safety across multiple industries and it ensures that critical components are free from cracks, porosity, corrosion, or other defects that could lead to failure in service.
This test covers major NDT methods including Ultrasonic (UT), Liquid Penetrant (PT), Magnetic Particle (MT), Eddy Current (ET), Radiographic (RT), Visual (VT), and Leak Testing (LT). It assesses whether candidates understand the principles behind each method, can select the right test for the right application, and interpret results accurately.
For example, identifying false indications in penetrant testing, recognising edge effects in eddy current inspections, or interpreting radiographic density changes correctly. The test also includes questions on safety and integrity in inspections such as ensuring equipment is calibrated, using appropriate couplants, handling radiation sources correctly (for RT), and maintaining inspection records. Scenario-based questions check the technician’s ability to troubleshoot common problems such as erratic ultrasonic signals, poor dye development, or irregular magnetic indications.
